Australia Day Awards

Over in the West Bob Wood was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to veterans and their families.

MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION Mr Robert James WOOD, Busselton WA 6280 For service to veterans and their families. Service includes:

  • President, Busselton Sub-Branch, Returned and Services League of Australia, since 2013 and 2001-2002 and Secretary, 1999-2000.
  • Welfare and Pension Officer, since 1995 and Advocate, since 2011.
  • Committee Member, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Association of WA, 2003-2005.
  • Caretaker, Legacy Camp Busselton, 1997-2003 and Volunteer, Legacy WA, since 1999
  • Volunteer Pension Officer, SAS Association WA. Volunteer, Royal Australian Regiment Association WA.
  • Volunteer, Busselton Unit, State Emergency Service, 1997-2000 and Leader, ‘2 years’ and past Treasurer and Committee Member.

Two Current 7RAR stalwarts were also recognized.

Congratulations to the former RSM of the 7RAR WO1 Mick Landy, OAM and Sergeant Mark Biviano, CSM (B COY).

This morning their service to 7RAR and the Australian Army have been recognised in the Australia Day Honours list.

All Piggies everywhere today are proud of both of you.

Their citations:

Warrant Officer Class One Michael Desmond LANDY, SA For meritorious service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 31st/42nd Battalion, the Royal Queensland Regiment and the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment. Warrant Officer Class One Landy’s professionalism, leadership and work ethic have been instrumental in stewarding the soldiers of the 31st/42nd Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment and the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, in preparation for operational deployments. His application of skills and knowledge combined with his dedication and mentoring of subordinates is exceptional and has directly influenced the development of the Infantry capability in Army.

 

Sergeant Mark Angelo BIVIANO, SA For meritorious achievement in the performance of duty as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment. Sergeant Biviano has been instrumental in contributing to the establishment of world-class junior leadership training, combat shooting, and tactics in the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment. His exemplary conduct, professional knowledge, and determination to see soldiers trained to the best possible standard have ensured that the battalion stands out in the Regiment as a place of innovation and excellence.
