WARRANT OFFICER CLASS ONE D.J. ALLEN
REGIMENTAL SERGEANT MAJOR

Warrant Officer Class One David Allen was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1963. He enlisted into the Australian Regular Army on 05 May 1981 and after recruit training was assigned to the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

He has served in a number of regimental assignments that include: the 5th/7th Battalion and 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment; the 5th/6th Battalion, The Royal Victoria Regiment and the 4th/3rd Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment. He has held the positions of Section Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Company Mechanisied Sergeant, Training Warrant Officer, and Company Sergeant Major.

His instructional assignments include: Platoon Sergeant – Infantry Initial Employment Training at the School of Infantry; Senior Instructor at the Land Warfare Detachment – Victoria; and the Training and Development Warrant Officer at the Royal Military College – Duntroon. He served on exchange at the United States Army Infantry School from October 1997 to December 1999 as a Tactics Team Sergeant Major.

Warrant Officer Class One D.J. Allen has held Regimental appointments as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 5th/6th Battalion, The Royal Victoria Regiment; the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment on its re-raising from 2007 to 2009; the Wing Sergeant Major Rifleman Wing and as the Regimental Sergeant Major of Combat Training Centre.

He holds a Bachelor of Training and Management Development from the University of New England.

Warrant Officer Allen assumed his current appointment as RSM 1st BDE on 21 January 2013.

Warrant Officer Allen is married to Lucy and has two children, Jordan and Jacob. He enjoys time with his family, watching rugby but playing touch football and his dogs.

 Medal of the Order of Australia OAM (Queen’s Birthday 10 Jun 13)

Australian Active Service Medal with clasps, East Timor and Afghanistan;

United Nations Mission in Support of East Timor Medal;

NATO Non Article 5 Medal with clasp – ISAF;

Afghanistan Campaign Medal;

United States Meritorious Service Medal;

Defence Force Service Medal with 3rd clasp – 30 years service; and

Australian Defence Medal.
