Lieutenant Colonel Gower grew up in regional South Australia and was commissioned in 2002 following the completion of training at both the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Royal Military College Duntroon.

His regimental postings include service in the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) as a Platoon Commander, 2nd Battalion RAR as a Company Commander and Operations Officer, and as Commanding Officer 7th Battalion, RAR.

Lieutenant Colonel Gower currently serves as the Military Assistant to the Forces Commander. Lieutenant Colonel Gower has completed staff appointments at Headquarters 3rd Brigade in operations and planning roles as a Captain and as Brigade Major. In these roles he developed an understanding of resourcing, training, operations and planning at the tactical level. He has also served in Land Capability Division in the Soldier Combat Systems Program where he
contributed to the advancement of soldier weapons, night vision and protection for ADF close combatants.

Lieutenant Colonel Gower’s training appointments include the Land Warfare Centre – Victoria and the Royal Military College – Duntroon where he served as an instructor and Adjutant. Lieutenant Colonel Gower has deployed overseas on operations on three occasions. He served in East Timor on OPERATION CITADEL as a rifle platoon commander, in Iraq on OPERATION CATALYST as an operations Captain in Joint Task Force 633 and in Afghanistan on OPERATION SLIPPER as a Combat Team Commander with the 3rd Mentoring Task Force.

Domestically, Lieutenant Colonel Gower worked directly with the Queensland Government on their Tropical Cyclone Debbie Recovery plan on OPERATION QUEENSLAND RECOVERY. He also led the Ready Battalion Group’s contribution to OPERATION BUSHFIRE ASSIST across New South Wales, South Australia, and the Australian Capital
Territory.

A graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College, Lieutenant Colonel Gower holds a Bachelor of Arts (Politics and Information Systems), a Master of Business (Information Technology), and a Master of Military and Defence Studies.

Lieutenant Colonel Gower is married to Cheryl, a practicing midwife and together they have three young children; Riley, Matilda and Chloe. He is a keen marathon runner and passionate Australian Rules football and Adelaide Crows supporter. His other interests include playing sport with his children and gardening.
