Warrant Officer Class One Michael Landy was born and educated in Far North Queensland and enlisted into the Australian Regular Army in March 1989. He has held a variety of regimental and instructional appointments in both training and land command units.

After Recruit and Corps training, he was posted to the 2nd/4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment in Townsville. In 1995, he remained with the 2nd Battalion when the 2nd/4th Battalion delinked. In 1998, he was promoted to Sergeant and stayed with the 2nd Battalion. In 2003, he was promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two and was posted to the 31st Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment, where he was employed as the Training Warrant Officer of the Cairns Depot. In 2006, Warrant Officer Landy was posted to the 5th/7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. In January 2010, he was posted to 31st/42nd Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment, as the Regimental Sergeant Major. On 21 January 2013, he was posted to the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, as the Regimental Sergeant Major.

Warrant Officer Class One Landy has held other training and land command appointments. From 2001 to 2003, he was posted as a Recruit Instructor at Kapooka. In January 2008, he was posted to the Combat Training Centre, Townsville, where he was employed as an Observer Trainer.

Warrant Officer Class One Landy has seen operational service in Rwanda with the 2nd/4th Battalion Company Group, on Operation TAMAR, as part of the United Nations; Rifle Platoon Sergeant in East Timor with the 2nd Battalion Group, on Operation WARDEN, as part of International Force East Timor; Company Sergeant Major of Combat Team Sabre in Iraq with the 5th Battalion Battle Group, on Operation CATALYST; Sergeant Major Training at the Counterinsurgency Academy in Afghanistan as part of Operation SLIPPER; Regimental Sergeant Major of the 7th Battalion, Task Group, in Afghanistan, on Operation SLIPPER.

Warrant Officer Class One Landy is married to Sharon and has three children: two boys, Sean and Kellan and a daughter, Madisen. He is also a qualified Fitter and Turner after completing a four year apprenticeship at Mossman Central Mill in 1987. His interests include being a motorcycling riding enthusiast and supporting Queensland in the State of Origin.
