From The Australian;
Army private Richard Leslie Norden has been posthumously awarded Australia’s highest military honour, the Victoria Cross, for “most conspicuous acts of gallantry” during the Vietnam War.
Private Norden was announced as a VC recipient by Anthony Albanese and Governor-General Sam Mostyn following a Remembrance Day service at the Australian War Memorial.
The move comes more than two years after the Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal recommended he receive the award for his bravery during the May 1968 Battle of Fire Support Base Coral.
The 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment rifleman from Gundagai returned from the war to join the Australian Federal Police in Canberra, but died on duty in a 1972 motorcycle accident.
