Hi “Fellow Pigs”,
For some time now, a group of us in WA have been working on arranging a tour to Gallipoli and Lone Pine in August 2015 to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Lone Pine that involved the 7th Bn AIF. During this battle 4 members of the 7th Bn were awarded the Victoria Cross. We have made contact with a number of the descendants/family of the 4 Victoria Cross recipients and all have been very receptive and appreciative of what we are trying to arrange. Two have already signed on for the tour and others are still considering joining us.
We will be proposing two tours, as follows:
Option 1 – Short Tour
This tour is for 6 nights, meeting in Istanbul and staying three nights from the 2nd – 4th Aug, followed by two nights at Gallipoli from the 5th – 6th Aug, then return to Istanbul 7th Aug. During our time at Gallipoli, we will attend a service at the Lone Pine cemetery on 6th Aug to commemorate the commencement of the battle. This will be followed by a visit to The Nek cemetery on the morning of 7th Aug, to pay tribute to the heroic Light Horse charges, which took place exactly 100 years ago.
Option 2 – Long Tour
This tour includes all of the short tour above, but instead of returning to Istanbul on 7th Aug, the tour will continue on for another eleven nights, visiting many of the attractions that abound in Turkey, returning to Istanbul on 18th Aug.
From there, options will be available for people to venture further afield, either before or after the Gallipoli tours if they wish.
Indicative prices are from:
Long Tour $2,235 land only $4,565 including airfares
Short Tour $1,290 land only $3,620 including airfares

I am most displeased to see this entry on the web site. I have been working for the last few years on providing a Lone Pine 2015 tour for 7RAR Association members. The tour has been advertised in Seven News over the past Two Years.
The idea that the Association would now run an advertisement for a tour by an another group is beyond me. I request that this Travel tree advertisement be removed from the Web site NOW. Please advise why this advertisement was placed.

Dear Bill,
Like to buy you and your good lady lunch when next in town. My purpose is to pick your brains on a trip Helen and I are planning to Lone Pine this August. I would prefer a private commemoration and chance to sprinkle some dirt from my great uncles place on his grave. I have the authorities permission to do this incl Turkish government. Essentially we want to go to Gallipoli, see the beach, walk to Lone Pine, lay a wreath and no doubt grieve for a while then return to Istanbul or a town near the Greek border as we are then driving West to Corfu.
Any chance of a catch up mate?
Warm regards,
David
Bill, It’s there because they asked me to put it there and my role is just to make sure the content of the site supports our association in a dignified and legal manner; not to adjudicate over what tour is best.
If you like I will do a page of your tour and give it equal billing as part of the centenary commemorations.
Get back to me on that.
Hi
My military historian son Cian (kee-un) is visiting the Balkans at present and hopes to be a part of the commemorations at Lone Pine. Cian is very keen to catch up for a chat with any ex 7 RAR also making the trip. Discussions need not be confined to Gallipoli as Cian has had three trips to Vietnam and is very knowledgeable when it comes to taking yourself off the beaten path and seeing the real Vietnam.
I’m on ctjreid@hotmail.com and will be happy to put you in contact with Cian.
Warmest regards
Flappers
