CHILDREN of Adelaide-based soldiers heading to conflict-ravaged countries this month have their own “army’’ to help cope with their parents’ absence for six months.
The piglet army was formed to help the soldiers’ families cope with the “heavy lifting’’ while the dads or mums are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
More than 400 troops, predominantly from the Edinburgh-based 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, began deployment earlier this month to Iraq and Afghanistan to work with local forces.
Hi all, is there anyone who served or knew my father- Wayne Grinter ?. He served with 7RAR in Vietnam and also 4RAR
Hello Paul
I was greatly sadden to learn from a friend on my return from a holiday last week that Wayne had passed away whilst I was away
To your mum you and all your family my sincerest condolences, am sorry so for your loss.
In 1968 I was for 4 months the Platoon Commander of the Anti Tank Platoon/Recce/Fire Assault. As I did not have a Pl Sgt Wayne was acting in that capacity. I found him always a big help, reliable .cool headed always dependable We got on very well together The next time a met Wayne it was at Lavarack Barracks in 1971. Alas I lost tracks with him when I left Townsville. I am very proud to have served with your dad. To your Mum and all the family my very best sentiments are with you John Lucaci
I knew your father during 1964 1965. We served together in 3RAR on the Malay Peninsula – Malay/Thai Border and in Borneo during the Confrontation.
During our time in Malaysia we knocked around together.
Your father had previously lived in Malaya when his father was based at Butterworth with the RAAF. Wayne did a part of his schooling there.
His knowledge of the local language came in handy during our time there
We lost contact when Wayne was posted to 7RAR upon our return home to Australia.
So sorry for my late reply, I sincerely appreciate your replies. Mum passed away long before dad ( 2002). I know dad was very proud of his mates he served with, but like many it took still on him
