– “Rescued from Vietnam” – A veteran’s recovery from PTSD.
Launching at Box Hill RSL, Nelson Rd, Box Hill on Thurs 21 July, 7:30 pm. Sorry for the late notice.
All the guys are welcome to come, and I have provided a synopsis . . .
It’s hard to summarize a complex experience, but . . .
“I was suddenly plucked from civilian life by the Australian Defense Force, trained to fight as an Infantryman, and sent sailing to Vietnam on an aircraft carrier with 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (1967).
A strange mixture of Aussie larrikin and quiet romantic, I found myself at war with more than the Viet Cong, as I struggled with guilt, sadness, fear and confusion over the war. My story of survival and recovery, by traveling across two continents in search of identity and redemption, is carefully encapsulated in the memoir”.

Also available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Xlibris.
Whilst I applaud the effort that went into writing this book, accuracy is also needed. The ADF was not established until 1976 and we in 7RAR served in the Australian Army. The ADF is the Australian DefenCe Force, so can we please avoid spelling Defence with an “s” instead of “c” in Defence. I look forward to reading the book which I think we can all learn from, particularly since PTSD is (in my opinion) being devalued as a medical condition derived from the battlefield, when people from all walks of life are now being diagnosed with/ claiming to be suffering from PTSD.
Dear RE Kenny,
Thanks for the comment, and sorry about the gaff on the ADF, and misspelling of Defence (US vs Eng) in the brief summary. Hope you enjoy the read, kind regards..
