I think I will always remember Jock, and his good friend Max Hemmings, who was the Battalion Chief Clerk. I met up with Max in Balcombe in 1972 when he offered to send a scribe back to Holsworthy so Jock could write him a letter.
Jock seemed to be always stern when needed, and friendly also when he felt.
I distinctly remember him being very pissed off with a soldier known as Rocky at Nui Dat. Jock punched the locker in the hutchie, which then fell onto Rocky’s SLR, bending the barrel.
I also remember being on patrol with Jock and a half platoon patrol one night in VietNam. We had stopped a Lambretta van that was breaking curfew. When the driver did not comply with Jock’s instructions, he was also struck, with such force that he slid out the opposite side of the Lambo.
Even though I have had little contact with any 7RAR members, there are always memories.
Goodbye Jock, it was a pleasure having met and known you.
Kind regards
